Mandatory kit
- A fully charged and functioning mobile phone, with the contact details for the race director and an emergency contact stored (race director contact details will be provided on the day)
- Head torch with either spare batteries or a secondary head torch
- Water bottles or bladder with a total minimum capacity of 1 litre (although we strongly suggest that runners have capacity to carry 1.5-2 litres, particularly if the temperature is high)
- Emergency survival blanket / space blanket
- Personal portable cup 15cl. minimum (water-bottles or flasks with lids are not acceptable)
- Waterproof jacket with hood, minimum 10,000mm waterproofing and must have sealed seams
Random checks may be undertaken prior to the race, during the race or at the finish line. There will be a minimum of 1 hour penalty per missing item of mandatory kit (all penalties are at the Race Director’s discretion). These items are for your own safety on the course.
Suggested kit
We strongly suggest that you also consider carrying the following items throughout the race:
- Route guide (hard copy) – this can be downloaded and printed or ordered here. If you have an older copy of the route guide, this is also acceptable. It is suggested that this is kept in a waterproof cover for the race
- Electrolytes (such as electrolyte tablets, electrolyte powder, or salt tablets)
- Reserve fuel. Please do not entirely rely on consuming food at the checkpoints. Please refer to the nutrition section of the website for further advice regarding selection of food / fuel
- It is strongly suggested that you download the GPX file for the route and import this into a mapping application on your smart phone. See the route pages on our website. Free applications such as ViewRanger can be used to navigate the route if you are having problems following the route markings. The GPX file can be imported into ViewRanger or other compatible mapping applications
- Phone battery backup, particularly if your phone is being used for navigation e.g. fully charged solar charger or power bank and USB cable
- Backup light source
- Whistle
- Compass
- Waterproof trousers
- Spare socks
- Reflective clothing
- Watch
- Hat and gloves
- Medical kit and any other medical supplies you might require e.g. plasters, antiseptic wipes, antihistamines if you have allergies, hydrocortisone acetate cream if you react badly to insect bites or nettle stings, lubrication if you suffer from chafing etc.
